The following actions/procedures are presented in priority order. Everything here is meant to provide a "guide" in making a claim under your yacht insurance policy.
It is your primary duty, responsibility and right under the policy:
To respond with every means available for the welfare and well-being of any injured parties aboard your vessel or not, as well as to take whatever steps you deem necessary to protect your property from further loss or damage.
Make arrangements for medical attention as expeditiously as you deem appropriate given the circumstances, as well as arrangements for towing, removal, pollution cleanup or salvage of your vessel. Do not discuss fault or cause with anyone at the time of your claim.
Call your insurance agent and report your claim at your earliest convenience given the actions discussed above.
Select/contact the commercial facility you prefer to have repair your vessel, and request an estimate for repair of your damages be faxed to Anchor Marine at 206-273-6999.
For any theft claim, of any nature, report the occurrence to local police authorities and obtain a case number. (This is a requirement of all companies' claims departments.)
The company adjuster, repair facility and surveyor (field representative of the adjuster) will work together in order to facilitate the complete repair of your vessel in an expeditious manner. Should you have any questions regarding the claim process or status of your claim, please call Anchor Marine at 1-800-726-2728.
Once the survey, if required by the adjuster, is completed, the repairs, at the direction of the vessel owner, may proceed.
When work is completed, the final invoice should be 1) forwarded to the surveyor for his review and final report; or 2) if no surveyor is assigned, the final invoice should be faxed to Anchor Marine to be forwarded to the adjuster for payment.
The claims draft (check) will be issued net of the hull deductible and any relative depreciation stipulated in the policy to the policyholder and named loss payee (bank). Prior arrangements may be made to issue the check directly to the repair facility.
Be aware of requirements to report your loss to the Coast Guard. Your company may want a copy of this report.
